Contemporary Artists - ALBERT JOSEPH CARUANA (b1928.)




Biographical Notes: Albert Joseph Caruana.


He was born in Sliema, Malta, on the 14th September, 1928.

He received his early artistic training privately at the hands of Maria Pitre’ (drawing) and Anton Inglott (painting) 1943-45.



Between 1975 and 1981 he produced a series of prints depicting folklore subjects from his original pen-and-ink drawings. He attended art classes by Harry Alden at the Malta School of Art 1978-81. From then on he dedicated himself almost exclusively to the on-the-spot water colour painting of the Maltese landscape.



Since 1974 he has participated regularly in collective exhibitions both in Malta and abroad, as well as joining painting trips abroad organised by the Malta Society of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce.



He held his first personal exhibition of water colours at The National Museum of Fine Arts, Valletta, in 1990. Mid-Med Bank Limited commissioned him to paint a set of seven Maltese and Gozitan Parish Churches for the 1993 calendar.



His works are to be found in numerous private collections, banks and other institutions.
